Hospitality with a slice of History

An easy 2 hour drive from Durban, in the heart of Zululand you will find Oom Wessel Guesthouse, a private and tranquil country retreat. Oom Wessel offers a unique combination of peace, comfort, homeliness and beautiful views.
Situated on the farm Nandi, named after Shaka`s mother who lived in the Emkindini area in which the farm is situated, the atmosphere lends itself to a time from a bygone era. Guest cottages and rooms are reminiscent of settler homes and are tastefully decorated to ensure comfort and a warm, intimate and informal stay.
The farmhouse, once a Catholic Church and Mission has been transformed into a unique and interesting home with a tin-shack pub, entertainment area and a collection of antiques and memorabilia to remind the visitor of the `good old days`.
Traditional South African home cooked dinners are served on request and if you’re lucky enough to arrive on a Boerekos evening you’ll get a full sample of farm style cooking – from Afval (Tripe) to Souskluitjies. A landmark in the Zululand area is Oom Wessel se Winkel, a farmstall on the property, where stunning views, boerebeskuit, koeksisters, biltong and light meals can be enjoyed on the deck outside.
It’s an ideal and peaceful venue to rest and relax for tourists, groups, friends and honeymooners. Make time to relax and enjoy farm hospitality.
